Hotels (Outside of the Park)

Once again we’ll make a common point… while there’s no shortage of hotels around the park there’s a wide range of service levels. Many low cost or budget places that you may consider acceptable where you live are anything but nearby. The simple reality is that there’s more demand than supply much of the year and that lets hotels skimp on upgrading, sound proofing and other comforts. Just because someone says “pool” doesn’t mean it isn’t a big ash tray (trust us, we’ve seen it).

That said there are also some great properties around the park for all budgets and tastes. How far up the ladder you climb is really a matter of two very simple questions – how much time do you plan to spend in your room and what is your tolerance for noise/ old hotels?

Personally we find that while a lot of the day is spent out and about at the park, at shops, at bars, restaurants and so forth, we’re in our room and awake far more than on a typical Vegas or tropical island vacation. There’s a lot to be said for a mid afternoon respite before hitting the lines again in the evening and having a place you want to return to isn’t a bad thing. We’re also of the opinion that thanks to Priceline and package deals (see: How can I save money on my Disneyland hotel?) staying in above average accommodations doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.

Of course if you’re of the philosophy that a room is just a bed anyways and you won’t be awake or around long enough to care what is under the couch then your options open up dramatically and you can get an even better deal and probably stay closer to the park its self.

Or for a review of some of the properties we’ve stayed in keep reading these links.
