Getting to Disneyland from Orange County (SNA) Airport

As we’ve said several times if your whole visit is about Disneyland (and yes that includes the surrounding area) there’s really no need for a car. The problem of course is that you won’t magically end up at your hotel or the park so how do you get there from the John Wayne / Orange County Airport? That’s a matter of course of where you’re going.
One of the nice things about the Disneyland area hotels is that many of them provide shuttles from SNA at no or a low cost so you don’t have to worry about finding a cab, renting a car or anything else.
If your hotel doesn’t provide a shuttle from the airport you have a couple options. You can rent a car, park the car and spend time returning it (boo), take a shuttle for about $15 / person or a cab for $30-40 per trip. The cab option tends to make sense for groups with 3 or more people or if you’re antsy.

Getting to Disneyland from Los Angeles (LAX) Airport

While LAX is located 36 miles and more than an hour from Disneyland in typical LA traffic getting there really isn’t that much different than coming from the airport down the street (except the time it takes of course). Because of the distance and slow speeds cabs are generally not a good idea but super shuttle and some of the other airport services get so much business that the cost of a ride is $16-$20 each way (per person).
There’s also a hotel bus that will take you to most of the major hotels and many of the minor ones for $14 (per person) according to a few sites although we’ve never used it ourselves.

Alternatively if you have a short trip or a larger group you can rent a car for about $25 a day, put a half tank of gas into it and drive there, back and to a few stops along the way.

Getting to Disneyland from Long Beach (LGB) Airport

Getting to the park from Long Beach is surprisingly more complex than you might think. Because its such a small airport there’s just not a ton of shuttles and the taxi ride, well, let’s just say it’s a lot shorter on paper than in reality. Long Beach is the toss up airport…. You can call for a shuttle at about $20 (per person), get a cab ($40ish, we suggest setting a flat rate with the driver as it’s a place where they can easily run you into traffic to run up the meter), or rent a car. I know we say not to rent the car but if your hotel has free parking it’s often just as cheap as any other option and faster.
